The fabric is woven on the Toyoda GL3 shuttle loom, Japans earliest power loom, originally developed over half a century ago. Because replacement parts no longer exist, maintaining these machines requires salvaging components from other retired GL3 looms, making the process both labour intensive and extremely slow.
