Tsuga heterophylla 5gal Western Hemlock hummingbird Origins: HawaiiWestern Hemlock. Recognized by drooping top and different sized needles in flat sprays. Favorite nesting tree for many birds. The genus name Tsuga is a Japanese word that means "mother tree". The Western Hemlock tree has an association with some well known fungi such as chanterelles. It's also capable of associating with fungi that is responsible for wood decay, which allows it to establish itself on nurse logs. Evergreen tree. Pacific NW Native.
