El Mercado sign, Austin, Tx. (1996) Tee continental club so we created the BikeOnce upon a time, there was a sign that hung from the front of the El Mercado restaurant at 1702 Lavaca Street, a site that was the former home to Jorge's Uptown Enchilada Bar back in the 1980s. It featured the slogan "World Peace Through Tex Mex." We miss the Lavaca Street location of the enchilada bar that served frozen margaritas and enchilada plates to Austiinites for nearly five decades. World Peace through Tex Mex is still in the works.
